We introduced the xl Programme to help pupils to realise that everyone can reach their own goals. It is a programme that helps pupils help themselves as well as others. The idea that everyone has their own skills, and that when they join up with others they can produce a great team, is one that we have proved can be a success.

Portfolio of Evidence

Throughout the 2 year programme pupils have a Portfolio of  Evidence, in which they must enter their reports, photographs and planning for everything they have done.  Pupils need to achieve 24 credits to gain a Level 2 Certificate, which is equivalent to a C grade at GCSE. These are completed over the 2 years with 7-8 modules, with each module being worth 3-6 credits.

Pupil Led

We aim to encourage students to think for themselves, to evaluate what is available, and research from a variety of sources other programmes that may be started. Each pupil on the programme takes part in organising and running several events throughout the school. Pupils are encouraged to be creative, manage information and their own learning, to work with each other and problem solve. One of the best aspects of the xl programme is that it is pupil led. This means that within the main sections of the programme the pupils can decide what they would like to do!
